WHEN IS IT TIME TO HIRE A REAL ESTATE AGENT?

May 08, 2019

You’ve researched so thoroughly via the internet it seems like you know all there is to know about your local market.  While you may have a ton of statistics and basic information about homes for sale, do you really know the details of the market? If you are ready to spring into this real estate market, the answer is no! No amount of Internet research can substitute for the education and expertise that a professional brings to the table.  Where else will you find:

  • guidance on pricing
  • a buffer between parties for negotiations
  • a preferred go-to list of resources
  • managing the mountains of paperwork

The most important role a real estate agent plays is to ensure that your transaction goes off without a hitch from beginning to end.  Unforeseen surprises do occur, so it’s even more important to have an expert on your team because coordinating lenders, inspections and the disclosures required by law can get complicated!  The biggest question isn’t actually “Do I need a real estate representative?”  With the sheer volume of agents to choose from, the real question is “How do I choose the right one for me?” Luckily, there are ways you can narrow down your choices.

ASK FOR REFERRALS; or even go online and read the reviews of local agents.

CHECK LOCAL LISTINGS; active agents will have inside information that can be invaluable as you search for exactly the right home or to market your property to its best advantage

DO INITIAL INTERVIEWS; you are employing an agent so a job interview should be expected.  A few key questions can uncover a wealth of information:

  • If you are selling a property, what type of marketing will they use?
  • What type of representation do they offer? Do they specialize in a particular type of transaction like single family or multi-family purchases?
  • What is their track record? Experience is one thing, but history and achievements indicate what you might expect.

DON’T DISCOUNT YOUR OWN GUT FEELING.  Buying or selling a home can be a highly emotional experience.  You want to work with someone who gives you a comfortable feeling, who you believe you can trust to watch out for your best interests.

Most agents recognize the need to put a client at ease, so count on your local marketing specialist in Essex County New Jersey to provide you with outstanding personal attention and guide you comfortably through the entire process.
